The offer came with a buy-on: nine thousand euros for eleven dates, framed as a contribution to production costs. My label paid it, which means I paid it, because it went straight onto my account as recoupable.

The audiences were real and the dates were good. But I want people entering this business to know that the opening act is often the customer.
