Nineteen hours behind the wheel, then load-in at nine

The routing had us in Denver on a Tuesday and Chicago for load-in on Wednesday morning. That is only possible if somebody drives through the night and then works a full show day. That somebody was me, and the per diem was twenty dollars.

I raised it with production. I was told the routing was locked because of a hold on a venue. Two months later a different crew member fell asleep at the wheel outside Sandusky. Everyone survived. The routing did not change.
