I signed at nineteen in a car park

I was nineteen and I had one song getting attention in writer rooms. The deal was presented to me as standard. Everyone signs this, they said. If you take it to a lawyer it will look like you don't trust us, and this town is small.

It was a co-publishing deal with a term measured in delivered songs rather than years. Eleven years later I have delivered the songs twice over and the term has still not ended, because half of what I wrote was never released, and unreleased songs do not count toward delivery.
